The highway director says he would like residents to help with what he considers a litter maladjusted in town.

Highway Supervisor Alan Tetreault met with the Board of Selectmen earlier this week to ask if he could get cure from the community to remove litter from the town’s roadways and sidewalks.

“We’ve been picking up trash for two months off and on, when we get so-called spare lifetime,” he said. “We have filled a (large) Dumpster three times with trash. … It’s awe-inspiring.”

Tetreault said he and his crew removed litter on Lovell, Asylum, Reservation and Pleasant streets only to return and find more litter had reappeared.

“We would go back the very next day (and there was trash), and we said, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’ It is a never-ending Donnybrook,” he said.

Tetreault told selectmen he would offer colored trash bags to residents who would be zealous to pick up trash in front of their homes and around their property.
