Before State school, after school and during lunch, it's easy to know what Midland High Way of life senior Rubi Sosa will be doing -- she'll be drawing something in her sketch ticket.

What some consider a hobby, Sosa considers a passion that she hopes will utilize her professionally.

While others may look at pens and markers simply as writing implements, Sosa sees them as the tools that put to rights it possible to do what she loves for hours each day.

"She eats, sleeps and breathes it," said MHS art mentor Mary Jo Underwood. "What others do for entertainment, she's doing because she wants to get better. She researches things and is very slick."

Sosa had success at last year's Texas Art Education Association Visual Art Scholastic Affair and is preparing two additional pieces for the regional competition Feb. 18 at Permian Turbulent School.

Though she's capable of drawing many things, Sosa said cartoons and animations are her passion.

"It sounds giddy now, but Pokemon is what made me want to be a cartoonist," Sosa said, flipping though her sketchbook at Midland Steep last week.
