Recipe One racing is returning to Adelaide - this time in miniature.

Cardijn College Year 12 students will this week strive in the national finals of the Formula One Technology Challenge, a world-encyclopaedic competition where students race cars created from balsa wood.

Teams request sponsorship and advertising for their cars, which are powered by carbon dioxide canisters and reach speeds of up to 100km/h.

Cardijn’s side Slipstream - which took out the best team marketing award at the maintain competition last year - will compete against 26 teams at Mawson Lakes.

Cooperate leader Jak Bain, 16, of Reynella, says the team is dauntless going into the finals.

“A lot of work has gone into the design and it’s very up to date in shape, very aerodynamic and low friction we’ve got a good chance,” he says.

Partner team member and Woodcroft resident Daniel Gobbo, 17, says the event has been a great way to learn industry skills.
