Whether you’ve been whittling for years or you’re new to the artisanship, Mike Adams says there’s a place for you at the table among the woodcarvers of Destin.
“We have everything from positively good to starters,” Adams told The Log, as he unloaded a satchel full of dull figurines. A cross, an angel and a Santa face were among the Niceville denizen’s current projects.
“I work on different things at the same constantly because I get bored with just one,” he said. And once he’s finished, he passes along the pieces to relations and friends.
Woodcarving has been a part of the Destin Community Center calendar of classes for nearing a decade. While the experienced carvers would rather call it a session than a class, they’re ready and willing to help newcomers.
“If you want to start, just do it,” said Adams, who’s been a part of the platoon for eight years. “It doesn’t take any real skill. It’s justified a matter of enjoying it and being able to work with your hands.
