A twosome of state lawmakers are endorsing Republican congressional hopeful John Archer in his exceptional race in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.

Iowa Rep. Linda Miller and official Sen. Roby Smith, both Republicans, gave the nod to the Bettendorf attorney this week.

Miller, who represents some of the most Republican patch in Scott County, praised Archer’s work ethic for traveling the territory over the past six months and for being committed to cutting spending.

“He is part of the fabric of the community and has the beat of the community,” Miller said. She praised Archer’s intractable-solving ability and his electability.

Smith, who represents Bettendorf and part of Davenport, said Archer’s calling at Deere & Co. gives him a unique insight. Archer is an attorney for the company. He also is a fellow of the Pleasant Valley School Board.

Four men have said they plan to run for the 2nd Area Republican nomination.

Dan Dolan, a homebuilder from Blue Grass, Richard Gates, a Keokuk tea fete leader and Bob Huppenbauer III, of Burlington, have all filed candidacy statements with the federal administration. The filing period for the race, however, doesn’t begin until toward the end of February. The deadline is Step 16.
