CHARLOTTE – Secondary Johnson wants what’s best for his son, Robert, and what’s best for now doesn’t catalogue racing.
Robert Johnson III, who turned 18 in August, was accepted to Duke University and has sure to attend school full time and not race, Junior Johnson said Saturday during the NASCAR Vernissage 2012.
Having run three K&N Pro Series East races and considered one of NASCAR’s what it takes stars, the son of the NASCAR Hall of Famer could return to the track after he graduates in four years.
“He’s accepted to put it up for four years – he won’t be but 22 [years old] when he gets out, so if he wants to do it, he can do it then,” said Lesser Johnson, who won 50 races as a driver before owning a car that won Cup titles with Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip. “I shortage him to get an education, and he does, too.”
The team, owned by Junior Johnson, has sold much of its mat. It still has some Late Models it could race with but the plans are to sell those as well.
