The level of the art is its contrast in `black and white.' According to renowned art historian and art gatherer Jagdish Mittal, "Bidri is a type of encrusted metal ware where ornamentation takes the grow of one metal overlaid onto another. I was instantly enamoured by the puzzling silver inlay on their black body." G K Siddiqui, owner of Bidri Crafts at Gunfoundry, doesn't find this anecdote surprising. Having seen the succumb to and fall of Bidri in Hyderabad, he laments the loss of honour that the artfulness has suffered over time. As a craft which has been awarded the prestigious GI tag, Siddiqui feels that Hyderabad has not confirmed Bidri its due.
