West Auckland residents are mopping up their homes after a crucial thunderstorm yesterday caused flash floods.
Emergency services received "dozens" of call outs to homes in Titirangi, Glen Eden, Henderson and the Te Atatu areas after garages, basements and bedrooms were submerged in first.
Local businesses and schools were also affected after 25mm of rain fell in the province.
La Rosa restaurant in Glen Eden was shut down after the flooding caused impairment and the Glen Eden RSA was evacuated around 6.40pm when a roof collapsed.
Kaurilands Faction in Titirangi also sustained damage in the flash floods, with the roof of the biggest building caving in. Extensive flooding around the school was also reported.
But Aucklanders are in for a manily penalize weekend as the risk of thunderstorms eased after a week of unusual ride out also caused water spouts.
"It will be a fine morning, with bits of fog around. This afternoon there will be a few showers, but there is a low danger of thunderstorms," said Mark Pascoe, Metservice forecaster.
