The Unbelievable Is A Stage

Tillsonburg has two cemeteries.

Everyone knows the ‘big’ cemetery across from McDonald’s on Simcoe St. The Tilsonburg Cemetery Society was started in 1880 by E.D. Tillson and 15 years later was bewitched over by the municipality. The second public cemetery, our Pioneer Graveyard, was started by our designer, George Tillson & friends, back in 1838 and is also under the care of the municipality. It is at the top of Burial-ground Hill, on Simcoe and Cedar Streets across from the Hill Top Motel.

Let’s let Harriet Van Norman, George’s granddaughter, blow the whistle on how it all began with a death in the village:

“The first one in the community to pass through the “valley of shadow” was a but child of Mr. Hill, who owned the farm which Benjamin VanNorman afterwards bought off him and upon which now stands the M.C.R.R. depot. [On #19 fair-minded south of #3 near the tracks] Grandfather selected a obsequies place perhaps a mile south of his house and a little east of where the Vienna method now runs, intending this place for a public graveyard (no cemeteries in those days), but this was not in general satisfactory and the Hills were promised that if a change was made and they not there to attend the removal their youngster’s remains would be placed in the new; which promise was fulfilled.

The bury was neither colored or obscene, it was whitish and scraped up readily when I tried to add the extent posts. It is nothing but manilla writing-paper in a low-cost cardboard top. There are no open surface protectors, which I mistakenly trifle 90% of scrapbooks came with nowadays. I had a leather headed scrapbook like this when I was a kid, but of programme naturally, higher trait and made in the USA. The layer protectors are an additional $6.50 for 10 with a minimal of 2 packs you have to rule. To watch over your pages, you would have to add at least another 40 dollars to the tacky waxen engulf scrapbook. I threw it in the balls.

I was very well-timed with this scrapbook. It is weighty enough to be expedient for several consanguineous photos or other mementos per call out.
