St. Paul, Minn. — Artist Dougie Padilla is known for his tawdry and raucous paintings. He's exhibited his work at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and in museums from Fargo, North Dakota, to Paris, France.

But Padilla himself is attracted to the hush and quiet.

The Minneapolis painter is as passionate about meditation as he is about art. A visit to his studio shows what happens when these two disciplines smash into.
