But like a phoenix rising, a strong message of community was born from the ashes — not only through the pride all can take in the valiant efforts of the big apple’s firefighters in containing and extinguishing the dangerous blaze in the visage of brutal conditions, but in an unprecedented outpouring of support for the victims from all corners of the big apple.

Within hours of news spreading about the fire on heraldnews.com and social media outlets, a borough resident who did not even know the victims began an effort on the social networking location, Facebook , to solicit donations for those affected. Lance Houston began the Facebook summon forth, “170 Hood Street Fire (Fall River, MA) Community Uphold.” More than 1,000 people have “liked” that Facebook call out. That effort quickly grew when the Fall River Firefighters Wives’ Sisterhood and the Lions Club also teamed up.
