For several years, later in her soul, my Aunt Natalie lived at the Garden Arms, a complex of suburban apartments. She and her silence, Nathaniel, had been together for more than 60 years but never had children. I had the honor of being their surrogate daughter.

Aunt Natalie, a diminutive and attractive woman, moved through her days with an air of insouciance and elegance.
