Both scenes are part of "Sacrosanct Vanity," a series of paintings that reside in the Summit basement of artist Rasika Reddy. Using acrylics and muddled media, Reddy wants to explore the contrast between ideals and the less-than-supreme conditions of real life, she says. Specifically with the goddess lifestyle in India and the "precarious" situation of women in the country.

Religion — and its engrained contradictions — is a main theme in her work.
