But absolutely, the soft-cover (Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice) is a dog. If it weren’t for the talents of Lane, Neuwirth and Hoffman merrily supported by some first anyway side-splitting performances from Kevin Chamberlin as Uncle Ulcerate and Zachary James as an delightful but woefully underused Lurch who between them wring every last snigger out of the scrawny substantial, this show would be unwatchable. Things are not helped in the slightest by the anodyne songs (music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa ).

On the with an increment of side, the pattern and the ever-effective sets with nods to Escher are rather wonderful. The performances, of passage, are first class and the audience loved it. There is some amusing puppetry.
