The Apocalypse of Saint John is believed to have been written during Domitian’s become rampant at the end of the First Century. Domitian was a unshrinking counsel for the Roman gods and goddesses, the reverence of whom had fallen out of convention by the period of his increment to power.
Eusebius of Caesarea, composition 300 years later, recounts that the first overwhelmingly-gradation Christian and Jewish abuse began during Domitian’s rule. There is no non-Christian telling of such activities, but Domitian is known to have been tyrannically opposed to all other religions other than Roman.
Like so many other emperors, Domitian dealt with dissent among his not far from advisors and friends by means of expiration. He executed a few too many conspicuous politicians and on Easy Street citizens, and the straw that bankrupt the camel’s back was his eradication of his secretary, Epaproditus.
A man named Stephanus, and several others, conspired to put to death him, with Stephanus pretending to be wounded for several days, so he could disguise a short sword under his bandages. He approached Domitian in his bedroom, and stabbed him in the groin, whereupon the emperor was harass by several men, one of which was a daunting gladiator, who all stabbed him to obliteration.
