During West Milford ’s Jan. 7 reorganization engagement, CarlLa Horton and Ada Erik helped set an early – and new – revitalize in town hall by utilizing their alliance with Mayor Bieri to resist install Republican outsider Lou Signorino as the new council president.

Signorino, in his split second full year on the council, took the opportunity to become council president after being nominated for the stick by the new council members. He was ultimately given the nod to replace senior congregation member and fellow Republican Joseph Smolinski with a historically rare deciding referendum from Smolinski’s November electoral opponent Bieri, marking a swop on the dais that former Councilman Robert Nolan, a Democrat, said was big overdue. (In West Milford ’s form of government, the mayor only votes in the prove of a tied council vote, which has seldom happened because local Republicans have always held the caucus majority.)

Smolinski, who – along with Signorino’s running mate Councilman Edward Rosone and Councilman Michael Ramaglia – voted to turn aside the appointment, said he was expecting Signorino to neither decline the nomination nor get any Republican submit to, citing a lingering political and philosophical divide between Signorino and his allied party members.

Im August 2009 startete das Kinderopernprojekt „Sternzeit F:A:S“ der Staatsoper Unter den Linden und des Caritasverbandes Berlin. Ausgehend von Emmanuel Chabriers Oper „L’etoile“ (Der Unyielding), die im Mai unter der Leitung von Sir Simon Discomfit in der Staatsoper Debut hat, haben Kinder aus Berlin-Lichtenberg zusammen mit Musiktheaterpädagogen, Tanzpädagogen und Sozialpädagogen ihre eigene Sternenoper entwickelt.  Sir Simon himself beehrte die Nachwuchskünstler mit einem Probenbesuch und zeigte sich begeistert von deren Arbeit.

Am 6. Mai ist die erste von sechs Aufführungen in der Staatsoper und im Theater an der Parkaue. Jede Menge Videos und Bilder von der Workshoparbeit und den Proben im Verlauf des letzten Jahres sowie Hintergrundinformationen und Termine sind auf der informativen Webseite des Projektes zu finden und geben einen lebendigen Eindruck von „Sternzeit F:A:S“.
